State Of The Nation Track Update

After a few months of both Man and nature's destruction we have got a lot of the tracks up and running again with just the last three big ones in our sights to do the final link up in Craters

We expect to begin rebuilding both Tank Stand and Walters in about a week just waiting for the final few logs to be pulled out.

Here is a quick list of the damaged tracks that are now open again:

Huka Challenge News Flash: The new and very altered course

The Huka Challenge

Start: 7 am
Entry Fee: $99.00

This is a non-competitive 85km approx mountain bike ride on a par in time and difficulty with the iconic 160km Solo ride around Lake Taupo.

Course Description

Most of the ride will be on single track of grade 2 and 3 with about 10 % grade 4. There will be a very small amount of road to ride maybe a Km and a 2km section of 4x4 track - sorry but we have to link up the single tracks somehow!

Expect to get tight technical tracks up to grade 4 all the way to From Wairakei Resort Hotel so don’t have a sleep on the job. The tracks are all in great nick and the new tracks have packed down and are real fun.

Bike Taupo’s track crew have done a lot of work getting the cross over bridges and connecting tracks built and its going to be one great ride of single track after single track.

It is demanding and therefore suited to fit and experienced riders. Refer below for course disciption.

Support

We will have a water point at the Hub caf, you will also be able to slip in and get some food and a short black if you need one to keep you going. This will be approximately 30Km into the ride. We will have Marshals on the tracks to help pick up the broken bits but in true MTB style you have to look after yourself.

Times are recorded by transponder as riders cross the start and finish lines.

Cruiser

Start: 9.30am
Entry Fee: $99.00 per rider

Contact Huka Cruiser approx 35 Km replacing the relay.

This course is designed as a challenge unlike the Huka Challenge which is a bit of a gut buster.
This course takes in all the best scenic parts of the Huka but believe me it’s not a walk in the park.

Support

Water will be at Hub Cafe also Coffee etc in this area. It is also used by the Huka Challenge as a main support station so a great place to hang out if you are a supporter-spectator plenty of parking is available.

Road Access is available to:

  • HUB Cafe
  • Aratiatia
  • Spa Park

Times are recorded by transponder as riders cross the start and finish lines

Craters MTB Park Harvesting and Track Update July 5 2012

All harvesting activity south of Craters Rd in Areas 1 (Squirt and Corkscrew) 2 (Tourist Trap) and 4 (Bumble Bee) has now been completed and cycling can resume in these areas.
As noted previously, over the next 2 – 3 months there will be occasional load-outs of eucalypt logs stored at the intersection of QLine and Powerline Roads. Our safety procedures are such that public and permitted access to that area can continue while load-outs are being conducted as long as users comply with instructions given by truck drivers.
Harvesting behind Helistar, Rapid Sensations, and on Loop Rd is completed also, so there are no longer any safety restrictions imposed by those activities in those areas. Note that this does not include areas of forest on Rapid Sensations land/ site.
Harvesting in the Tank Stand (area 3 on attached map) will commence in the week starting July 9. Please note the following:
