The trails follow the Waikato River and Hydro-Lakes and are divided into those sections. 100km of trails of which 50km are in the Taupo District run past Lakes Karapiro, Arapuni, Waipapa, Maraetai and Whakamaru.

I have only done the Maraetai to Atiamuri sections and can say the trails are superbly constructed with a 70m suspension bridge, multiple board walks, all weather surfaces and the scenery is spectacular. Mangakino to Atiamuri is Grade 2 so suitable for all riders. Mtn bikes and hybrids are suitable.
