Track Damage

We have been slammed again with Easterly Winds and have a lot of damage in the Tourist Trap, Cork Screw and Tank Stand areas.

Do not go into those areas or do any cutting or clearing trees, as they may be logged !
We also have alot of hang up trees, which will hit you on the head....

Other tracks that have damage are the Tunnel and also the Cafe Track up from Huka falls

If you do go for a ride please report back on any tracks with trees down, be good to hear about the Rotary Ride, W2K and any others please so we can get to them as soon as possible.

February Track Crew News

Tracks are still in good order just the odd blackberry face cleaner from all the growth we have had.  Good trick is ride at the end of a line, others then they take all the thorns off before you.  SH Fun is getting a bit soft with the dry weather and the races but still a great ride. With all the rain we have been getting the riding in Taupo is the best we have had for years

We are putting in a new alignment for Tourist Trap which will take you around the first hill and also give some more space to the Punga Trails jumps area We will be putting in a new entry to the Punga Trails as soon as its finished. Junk and Disorderly is bedding in and turning into a great  single track to get to the Hub cafe from the end of Kev's track.

The Great Lake Trail is up to the 6.2 km and is out of the wetland and will start to traverse around the steep hills and go towards KawaKawa Bay. Doc have put in a new bridge at Broken chain Gully  and upgrading two others on Kawakawa Bay track. Everybody seems to be enjoying the track and also the bird life down the wet land.

Thumb's up to the fairy who put up the xmas decations on the top of Outback That's  what mountain Biking is about

For those from out of town good trail etiquette is to call out the number of riders in your group when you meet up with riders going the other way

Aratiatia- SH1 bridge -Ferguson's or Te totara Gully loop

Great ridding on the hot days

Question  Is it the riding and the trail, or the environment we ride in..???  Would Walters or the Coster be as good with out the big trees around us ????

Merry Xmas from the track crew

Quick update on whats happening

Great Lake Trail is at the 4 km mark. Its open to as far as it goes but well worth a check out. Photos on the face book page on the other side of the page

To get to the start, drive /ride past the Kinloch turn off for about 6 kms on the Whangamata Rd and at the bottom of the hill just past Kawakawa Road you will see a bare pumice area. Then its jump on the treadlie and ride down the track to the end which is just past the tunnel. It a very easy track to ride both ways so you can take the kids. Please stay on the track

All other tracks are open and in good order after all the rain but we have had a lot of growth so watch out for the blackberries jumping out to get you

If you get lost riding, all the bike shops plus the info center and the Hub cafe at Wairakei sell maps of the track system. If you are a local and see lost people help them out or better still sell them a map as it helps with track maintenance

Have a great Xmas riding the track system

If you want to have a noisy The start is about 6 kms past the Kinloch turn off at the bottom of the hill after Kawakawa Road
