 Bike Friendly Accomodation
Bike Taupo has been rating places to stay in the area for their "Bike Friendlieness". Criteria included for example:
- Maps available
- Secure lockup
- Bike-wash Facilities
- Staff local knowledge
- Major Sponsor
We are still working on a full set of criteria and a Sponsorship system, but here are some of the top rating establishments in the meantime:

Hotel right next to town with heaps of rooms and places to park you bike Rip across the park out the front and you are on a bike lane or cross the road and its onto the Lions walk / cycle path where you can head out to 5 mile bay for a warm ride along the lake.

One off the good guys who believed in us from the start. A long term sponsors and with out them in the early days many tracks would not have be built. |

From the back off your unit your can jump on your treadlie and hit the tracks around Taupo.
If it’s full on Mountain Biking you crave, then its 2 Kms along the Resort track to Wairakei MTB Park and enter 50 Kms of single tracks from grades 2 to 6.
Go the other way is an easy loop ride around Aratiatia over Huka Falls Bridge and back to the Resort for a short black and a hot swim. |

Cottage Mews Motel is in Two Mile Bay, about 800 metres south of the State Highway 5 turn-off to Hawkes Bay. It is on the lake side of Lake Terrace, close to a safe swimming beach and perfectly situated for the afternoon sun.
A neat little Motel were you can rip out the front gate and it’s onto a bike path. Turn right and its 100 meters to the first coffee shop or left and a easy 3 km ride into town along the walking/bike path. Don’t mind people turning up covered in mud and will even pump your tyres up!
Owners have been big supporters of Bike Taupo and know all the Mountain bike tracks in the area and are all round goods guys.
