Bike Friendly Accomodation

Bike Taupo has been rating places to stay in the area for their "Bike Friendlieness". Criteria included for example:

  - Maps available
  - Secure lockup
  - Bike-wash Facilities
  - Staff local knowledge
  - Major Sponsor

We are still working on a full set of criteria and a Sponsorship system, but here are some of the top rating establishments in the meantime:

    • Spot the Cyclist Campaign - Every week we will reward 5 cyclists for using their bike
      check out who has been spotted.......

    • Mayoral Challange and Free Breakfast
      WHEN: WEDNESDAY 17th FEBRUARY
      WHERE: Great Lake Centre
      • Free Breakfast from 7am
      • Bike ride starts 7am
      • 2 x 1.5km laps around the Great lake Centre
      • One Bike + heaps of spot prizes to giveaway
      • Come and meet Mayor Rick Cooper
      • Prize Draw during breakfast from 7am
      • Prizes for best dressed bike, best dressed person, best dressed helmet
      • Freestyle BMX Demonstration

    Road Safety Campaign

    BikeTaupo together with the Taupo Distrct Council have launched an advertising campaign targeting motorists on our local urban and rural roads.

    The initial campaign was launched during the training weeks for the Cycle Challenge in 2004 and has been re-run every year during that time and the BikeWise Week and Ironman training times in February.

    THE CONTACT HUKA CHALLENGE

    The Huka Challenge is a new off road challenge designed specifically for mountain bike riders.
    The Huka Challenge is a non competitive 80 kilometres mountain bike ride on a par with the iconic 160km Solo ride around Lake Taupo.
