MATTERS ARISING:
1. Cycle theme flags for lamp posts - ongoing.
2. Letter to council re cycle strategy
issues - Lisa to contact Thunes Cloates of Council
next week.
3. Newsletter Lizzy advised it will be done
by end of month.
4. Cycle Toolbox workshop - Mike attended and said it
was very valuable. Attendees included,
council cycle officers from around the Bay of Plenty. He picked up a copy of the Rotorua Cycle
Strategy document which is good. Rotoruas main aim is to be able to bike from the city centre to their
mountain bike park. There was talk on
cycle lanes in urban areas. Problems
with current lanes like them disappearing at roundabouts. Talked about standardising the cycle lane
system throughout country. He also
picked up some CDs which cover the whole workshop. We will look at getting together to view
the CD one evening. Lisa and Mike to
arrange.
5. Speed Limit Issues - Lisa wrote to council with submission and we will appear at the
council workshop on 19 June at 10am (this may change) to
voice our submission.

SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS:
Media and Promotion:
1. Lizzy will be able to have the newsletter completed
by the end of the month.
2. Mike and Lizzy will work on the cycle theme flags
for lamp posts. Rotary may be able to
help with funding.
3. Bikewise community group meeting went well with some
good ideas for projects. Lizzy
completed an application for funding for $1,000 labelled ‘alternative cycle
routes to town’ which will include promotion of school routes and the new
gully systems.
4. A good article is in the latest Wilderness Magazine. We think they must have got the
information for it off the website.
Website/Membership:
1. Cycle Club now has a link/subheading on
website. Their website looks good too
and has our link on it
2. Thomas said he is working on changing our email
address again because of spam problems.
Submissions:
1. We will appear at the next Council workshop to voice
our speed limit submission.
Funding/Projects:
1 Murray
Fleming will be invoiced for $1,000 for our work at the Rotorua moonride
race. Pete has arranged to give $20
per car for petrol for the guys that helped out on behalf of Bike Taupo.
2 We
will be invoicing Council in June/July for the funding due per agreement in
sum of $11,000. GST will also be added
to this amount.
3
Maintenance:
1. John continues his Rotary Ride maintenance and is
going to commence work on changing the one-way downhill near Hot Water Bridge -
its a little to fast.
2. Theres around about $78 left in maintenance
account. Need to think about sourcing
funding for next year. With the increasing track system we envisage well
need around $5,000 to maintain our tracks next year.
3. The Contact Energy sponsorship proposal fell
through. Pete will talk to Richard
about putting a proposal/presentation to Tenon.

Wairakei Forest Mountain Bike System
1. The 5th
leg of the Cycle Challenge is all set to go ahead with the track route
agreed on. Entry fee pp will be $70. 6% will go to Wairakei
Tourism Board and Bike Taupo will receive $30 pp of that amount (net).
2. Outback has been completed and signs to go in
shortly.
W2K Track
1. Ongoing Dean Stebbing of Council still holds
things up. Chas has sent an email re
agreements etc after speaking to Dean recently but no response from him to
date.
Gully Tracks
1. Going well. Harvey Street
is completed and the signs are in. Lisa is now to organise a media release with Council and Rotary
(photos) and also advertise a community tree planting. Council to fund the trees.
2. Pete McFarlane is due to start the Elizabeth St
reserve which runs from Taharepa
Road to Tauhara Road. Not much to do on this one.
3. We need to look at a few more potential town off
road routes. Cherry Island
area, Huka Falls Road down to river and the one that runs around the Hospital Grounds.
4. Rainbow Point gully is still being negotiated re
where the bund placement will be. Working on an agreement with Chris Todd (Stormwater guy at Council) as
to where it will lie. Kevin Loe is
looking into the history of why the culvert was actually closed.
5. A big thanks goes out to the following groups and
businesses for their help with our mission to date: Taupo Moana Rotary Club; Taupo District
Council; Dave Bramley Builders; Lake Hire;
Tenon; Placemakers.
GENERAL BUSINESS:
1.
Tauhara College are running a multisport event next week and omitted to
apply to Bike Taupo to use the Rotary ride and the Redwoods (which is
part of the Wairakei concession). Pete has sorted them out
now. We need to remind all organisations that events on public
tracks require notification and agreement from land owners.
2. A Bike
Taupo member emailed the
committee about a nasty crash in the carpark tunnel. Apparently a rider dropped into the tunnel
off the edge and collided with a rider coming the other way. New signage will go in warning people to
slow down. Theyll read ‘DANGER SLOW
DOWN’
Meeting closed 8:47pm
NEXT MEETING:
• Thursday 29 June 2006
1/20
Totara Street,
Taupo (or such other venue as advised)
