TREASURERS REPORT:
OO Account balance (main) is currently
$22,941.00 - within that account new track and maintenance accounts are in
the red.
O1 Account balance (W2K) is $1,285.00
Petty Cash: $4.00
Receipts: $13,821.29 (made up
of TDC funding due; Mountain Bike Club event and maintenance fees; map
income; GST refund)
Payments: $3,127.09
TDC annual funding grant was received and
of the $11,000 plus GST, $6,000 was put into the track maintenance account,
the remainder is in the general trading account. There appears
to be provision in the funding agreement for a grant of $10,000 for
maintenance of the W@K track for the 06/07 period but has not been invoiced
yet. John wondered whether it should
be. Richard confirmed that it was only
due to us if the track was built. We
will have to renegotiate once track is done.
John has opened an online saver account
and transferred $8,000 into it. The
account bears an interest rate of 7% and the funds are available for transfer
at any time online only.
Accepted: Lisa/Richard
SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS:
Media and Promotion:
1. Lisa confirmed the newsletter went out end of July.
2. A media release appeared in the Taupo Times re the Harvey Street
gully as well as a letter to editor thanking sponsors.
Website/Membership:
1.
Submissions:
1. Richard is still working on the Lakeview Development
submission. Lisa handed to him the
Environment Waikato invitation to submit on same subdivision.
2. Richard will also send in a submission re the DoC
Whirinaki decision.
Funding/Projects:
1 Richard
is working on the pub charity applications for funding
2 We
will look at funding for the track from the sewerage plant to Bungy. Rotary are funding TDC for a track from the
bridge to the boat harbour.
3 We
will receive payment for marshalling at the Day Night Thriller again.
Maintenance:
1. Some work was required on tracks with all the rain a
couple of weeks ago. Parts of the
Rotary Ride were damaged and Pete McFarlane spent around 6 hours with the
digger on this track. Helistar Hill is
still a bit dodgy and needs checking. There were slips on the Tunnel Track
and Harvey Street gully track - all of which have been fixed. It was reiterated that its great to have
funds in the bank to be able to fix these problems straight away.
2. Committee thought of a great idea for the
future. Have local companies and
businesses ‘Adopt a Track’ perhaps
its an idea for Council to further. Businesses could fund maintenance of their chosen track and ‘best
track’ competitions could be held.

Wairakei Forest Mountain Bike System
1. Last Saturday a successful working B cut a new track
of the Outback towards Young Pines. The track is named ‘The Slalom’ Signs to shortly go up. It also
includes two new cattle stops.
W2K Track
1. Still at same stage.
Gully Tracks
1. 26th August is a tree planting working B in
the Harvey Street gully organised by the council.
2.
Lisa spoke to Pete McFarlane who has met with Chris Todd and Kevin Loe
re the Waipahihi Gully. This should be started towards the end of
September. As Pete is away for a couple of weeks. Chris is
also away but is happy for the work to commence in his absence.
Thomas said it needs to be completed by 14 October for the Treasure
Hunt. Pete McFarlane said there is not a lot to do to create the
track so it should go in pretty quick.
3. Pete will also be working on Elizabeth Street
gully shortly which is around 2 to 3 days work. Thomas mentioned theres an aerial that is
strung up from a building to another building and it runs across the height
(normally above head height), however in the wind and rain it was blown down
and Thomas had a nasty battle with it on his bike. Lisa will mention it to Colin Lunn.
4. Taupo Moana Rotary Club has invited Bike Taupo to talk to their
meeting on 2 October - re update on Gully tracks. All agreed it is important the Waipahihi
track is underway by then. Lisa and
Thomas to attend and speak.
GENERAL BUSINESS:
1. Treasure Hunt - Caf has now pulled out since Lizzy is no longer there. Thomas sought the committees acceptance
for Bike Taupo to head the event. The
committee agreed it would be ok. Thomas went over the event and some suggestions were made to make it
easier to run. He was going to check
with the Treasure Hunt committee re some changes. Ie only having the small circuit for the
treasure hunt and the longer one which, would involve too many roads and
management, becomes a guided tour leaving at a certain time. Lisa said she is prepared to help Thomas
out and will also prepare a media release.
2. Day Night Thriller event: DoC
has invited Bike Taupo to join their marquee at the Day Night Thriller
and we have accepted. Lisa to co-ordinate. We will be able
to sell maps, give away postcards, advertise gully tracks and the
Treasure Hunt in October, and advertise Wairakei, Rotary ride and other
Huka Falls tracks. Other recent progress. Think of a simple
message encouraging sign up. Need to check where the banner
is. Bike Taupo will also marshal for the event as usual.
3. Walking Strategy Meeting: Lisa
attended the walking advocacy group meeting and spoke about Bike
Taupos beginning and progress to its success to date. The
meeting also elected their first committee. The talk was well
received and Lisa invited the group to contact Bike Taupo any time they
needed advice or sounding.
4. Hub Caf: Helistar
caf have changed their name to Hub Caf. Thomas will mention to
them the cost if they want any mountain bike signage changed to reflect
the new name. It was also suggested they liaise with Council to
have a sign advertising their business at the Spa Park. More
people might go riding if they know there is a caf at the other end!
Meeting closed 8:48pm
