Urban/Rural Cycle Facilities:
1. Safety Campaign: Council and Bike
Taupo looking at an urban road safety
campaign targeting some key messages including parking in cycle lanes.
2. Rural road safety campaign is being slowly picked up by other
districts. Thomas said CAN would like
the campaign package and Lisa will forward to Thomas.
3. We need to try to meet with Alan Burkett re the safe crossing of state
highway one. Lisa to check with Jess
if she�s heard anything.

Maintenance:
1. Peter Mc continues his good work on the tracks, particularly spraying
for autumn.
Wairakei Forest Mountain Bike System
1. Some people have been
building feral tracks. These people will be encouraged to seek
advice of the team re building of tracks as they must be graded and
also fit in with the future plan for track building at Wairakei.
2. Mountain Bike Club summer series was very successful with number per
race up to 124.

The article in the Spokes has given Wairakei huge exposure.
Apparently Hub Caf� was so full of bikers over Auckland Anniversary
weekend there were bikes everywhere outside the caf�.
4. Dean Watson (enduro mountain bike races) wants to do a couple of races
at Wairakei this winter. The numbers
likely to be in these races exceeds our concession and therefore he will need
to apply direct to the Crown.

CAN Update
1.
Bike NZ is continuing to try to build its empire. Its looks
though they may approach CAN re the advocacy side of things.
2. Simon Kennett is keen to come up to Taupo to do a presentation and
ride.
3. CAN is funding a part-timer to promote membership drive in Auckland.
GENERAL BUSINESS:
1. Meeting with Roading - purpose/focus
• Need to
look at the ‘big picture’ of cycle infrastructure in Taupo town. Suggest the company Traffix.
• Review
cycle strategy document
• Make it
solution orientated.
