Su only started serious cycling after loosing her lower left leg.
On the 11 April 2006, while attempting to save her puppy, she was hit by an articulated trailer unit, on the Lake Rotoma Road. Thrilled to be alive, Su knew from years of nursing that the
21 May 2007 Su left re-hab and enrolled at the local gym, in her
wheelchair. The personal trainer at the Rugby Institute, Palmerston
North not only kept her spirits up but made the transition possible by
strapping her left foot to the pedal with tape each time she came in.
25 June 2007. Su got her first temporary prosthesis and started with
spin classes three times a week, soon after. Phantom leg pains killed
the joy for a while but eventually diminished. Su was eager to get off
the medications as quickly as possible.
