Track Crew News - July 2008
It wasnt long ago that every body was moaning about the dust and tracks getting a hard time. We have had the odd tree down but overall all the system is in very good nick and has handled the rain
The new track of the top of the Ground Effect Grinder is now joined up to Young Pines. Take it easy at the bottom one of the dips jumps up and grabs you.
This track is being funded by Rotary and is going to be an important link in the 70 km Huka Challenge MTB race. We still have some other links to built so we can run this race, this event is very important to our long term maintenance funding as it will let us keep expanding the system, so make sure you tell people about it.
The Day Nighter track has also had a birthday and is
riding a lot smother faster. Murray Fleming has cleared off the trees
that came down in the last blow so check it out, good way of making a Huka falls ride a bit longer or a night ride close to town.
Totara Gully is open again thanks to the DoC track crew they
have done a great job. You still have to carry your bike for about 20
meters along the other slip near the Huka end but it no big deal its
still being worked on.
Big Thank You to the people who turned up for coffee and to help dig out the tunnel under SH1. Being an inside job, it didn't matter that the weather wasn't the best.... Two and a
half hours from woe to go. A great job done!
We have had the odd tree down and slip on W2K but it still seems to be getting a lot of riders which is great.
Can people please let us know via the
