SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS:
Urban Jungle:
1. Bike Wise Month – Richard H reported that the Spot the Cyclist campaign is going well. Go by Bike Day will happen on 25 February. Bike Taupo has been asked to once assist with setting up cycle racks, a kid’s obstacle course and we will set up our usual Information stand.
2. Cycle Skills Training – training for school age children for Central Plateau Schools. A five month challenge with finals at the end of the year as incentives for kids and schools.
3. Cycle Emblems are due to be repainted
4. Spa Road Cut-through Ongoing
5. Thomas was acknowledged for his great work in keeping on top of these roading/Council issues.
Media Promotion and Website:
1. Postcards Promotion through CAN – All completed and were handed out at the meeting for distribution.
2. Features in Weekender Final article sponsored by Tenon will be put in the edition prior to Ironman. Groundeffect granted use of their article on urban cycling this has been changed slightly to pertain to Taupo.
3. Letter to Ed – Pete M to remind Jonty about this.
4. New Website – no progress to date with the CAN network
5. Our membership – comment made on how it seems large numbers joining per month etc. Thomas advised this is mostly SPAM and is deleted

Managers Report
· Wairakei – ongoing maintenance. Switchbacks are being logged
· New Grade 6 downhill track called “Budha” near the Corkscrew – but the grade lowers if you do the chicken shoots.
· A couple of guys have built jumps in the car park for freestyle BMX – Have chatted with them and Bike Taupo will help them rebuild in a different location.
· Looking at putting in toilet facilities at Craters car park. Sourcing two tanks.
· Groundeffect sponsoring $1,000 toward a Info Kiosk for timing purposes - will be a small shelter for those doing timing for races and will be situated in car park near bridge exit.
· Kinloch to Kawa Kawa track – Transpower turning down application for funding. A resolution was passed to apply for funding for this track upgrade purpose, to Southern Trust, Lion Foundation, Perry Foundation. DoC has also applied in house. Amount required $80K
Submissions:
· LTCCP - Richard to co-ordinate submission and will ask to speak to our submission.
Funding/Projects:
· See above Kawa Kawa track
W2K Track
· 4.2 in on the new track – approximately 500m to go.
· Informal opening to be arranged and the media will be invited to write an article
· 50 stoat traps have been laid
· Toilet is in place but not yet operating.
GENERAL BUSINESS:
Off Road ½ Marathon on W2K – Keith Crate requested a discussion with the committee regarding the running of a half marathon event on the W2K track.
The committee agreed that a policy need to be drafted for any events.
Points for thought include:
· Running/walking events only (safety issues with cycle races)
· 3 events per year
· Between certain time periods ie. Easter to Labour weekend
· Cap the numbers in the race
Richard is to draft up a policy
Donation Box - Rapid Sensations would like to install a donation box for track maintenance.
