Mid North Island Championships 2009 - Round 1, Taupo.
Round 1 Takes place in Wairakei Forest on Sunday 15 Novemeber 2009. The event is sponsored by the Avanti Plus Corner Shop of Taupo.
This round will be a big loop cross country MTB event of 33 km length. The course is 90% single track, with a great all-weather pumice surface, and tracks graded 2, 3 and 4. It is a worthy course.
For those who want to participate, but are not contesting the series, and just want some good fun, we have the 19 km Fun Ride option for you.

The entry fee for this round is a low $25, and you will get a well run event, heaps of MTB riding fun on purpose built all-weather forest tracks, and lots of great spot prizes thanks to our major sponsor the Avanti Plus Corner Shop Taupo.

The Wairakei Forest venue will be sign-posted off SH1, between Taupo and Wairakei, near Helistar.
Registration opens at 9.00 am, and racing begins at 10.00 am. Enter on-the-day only.
Entry categories for the MNIC Series are as follows:
Junior Boys (U15), Junior Girls (U15), Junior Men 16-18 (U19), Junior Women 16-18 (U19), Open Men, Open Women, Veteran Men 30-39, Veteran Men 40+, Veteran Women 30+
The Fun Ride is all in, Men or Women.
Course Details
For those of you who are familiar with the MTB tracks in Wairakei Forest, here is the full detail of the courses.
19 km Fun Course (Loop 1)
Start on gravel road (PowerLine Rd), through car park, Lake Hire Link 1, Tank Stand to Grinder, Grinder, Deb's to foot of 60 km Hill, Mr & Mrs (part), Better Than P, Young Pines end part, Incline, Coaster, Lake Hire Link 2, Corkscrew via Squirt, around car park, Tourist Trap, Ferret, and back to car park Fun Course finish.
We didn't say its an easy course, but we do guarantee it will be fun! Deb's is a new track, with good flow and a bit techy. You just have to do it!
33 km Championship Course (Loop 2)
Do loop 1 as above, then bypass the finish chute and carry on with the following. Lake Hire Link 1 (again), Tank Stand (again), Grinder (again), Buzzard, Missing Link, Tank Stand bottom end, Outback (sticking to the single track) as far as Retro, Retro, Luge, Slalom, Walters Wiggles (all new), Lake Hire Link 2 (again), and around car park to long course finish.
Its only 33 km in total, but your legs will know they've been working!
MNIC Series Information
Competitors can choose to enter one or more events, but to be eligible for series points and trophies you must enter at least 3 rounds including a start in the Napier final. The scoring system is 12 points for 1st place, 9 points for 2nd place, 8 points for 3rd, 6 points for 4th, 5 points for 5th, 4 points for 6th, and 1 point for 7th on down for all finishers. Your total series score is your best 3 rounds, but should there be a tie, best place in the Napier Final decides. The rounds after Taupo are as follows:
Round 2, Tokoroa, on Sunday 22 November 2009
Round 3, Rotorua, on Saturday 5 December 2009
Round 4 (Final), Napier, on Sunday 13 December 2009
