Well, well, well... who would of ever thought, Pete Masters and 109 other dirt-loving enthusiasts keen to give the dark side a crack in 1 gear! We know it's not everybody's niche riding style but way to go to all who participated. For those who where unable to attend here is how it kinda panned out.
As for the Le Mans start... about 500 metres beyond my comfort zone. And the rocky terrain, somebody tell Marty to strap up his ankles next time. Brendon and the committee obviously had nothing better to do while they waited for the start so they selectively "moved" a few rigs around, yet they forgot to do a number on Bryce Giddy's bike! Next time hey. Lactate threshold for most up tank stand, except spud who kept dropping his chain. Mr. Balm gets a mention for his high cadence output while running a 32:20 gear ratio. No one really pedaling down Q-line road... funny that. I thought a last ditch effort up Powerline road would surely sort out the true single speeders from the geared nana's, but no one told Nic Saunders that. And clearly I had forgotton just how technical a ride tourist trap is after oxygen deprivation. As for those 4 riders who streaked past me when I had a graceful dab, thank you for your concerns. At the finish line all riders were privy to a rather large chocolate fish for their efforts. Prize giving was held at the Hub cafe where Bryce Giddy & Katie Collins were acknowledged for their winning efforts. New Hub owner Jeff Patterson and his staff put on a great steak & ale evening for the club. We look forward to doing something similar at the end of the series.
From all reports it was a great night of racing and social frivolity.
The Huka Honda summer series continues next Thursday 19th Feburary when the traditional race circuit extension is introduced for the remaining 5 races. Course change is instead of doing Walters Wiggles you will now do Incline followed by Coaster. Due to this extention all 2 lappers will start together on zero minutes.
