Bike Taupo - Round 1

There was a great turn out of 106 riders for Round 1-Race 1 of the Huka Cycles / Pack & Pedal Summer series. The tracks were dry and fast and the feedback was that most riders really enjoyed their first blow out for the summer. It was great to see a bunch of young kids getting in on the 1 lap action as well. Thanks to all riders for looking out for one another on the few pieces of tracks that doubled up.

The new race course seemed to have caught a few riders out. It is really important to listen up at the race briefing so as to keep all riders accounted for and the times accurate. The only real confusion lay around the Tourist Trap exit.

Just remember that the only time you should find yourself in the car park is as you cross the finish line. So the first time all riders exit Tourist Trap its a right turn onto Powerline Road. The next time the 1 lap riders exit Tourist Trap its straight on over the bridge to cross the finish lap.

The 2 lap riders need to remember to hook a right back onto Tourist Trap to start their 2nd lap and then follow suit as outlined above. A few riders also missed the right hand turn from Lake Hire Link into Squirt. Again the only time you should find yourself in the car park is as you cross the finish line!

There is no riding through that car park tunnel for this the first round of the summer series. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the course. To put it plainly... simply follow the white arrows and enjoy your racing.
